Poupatempo

Empowering citizens for the public good

Public until mid 2023

Overview

I was contracted as a visual designer to overhaul the interfaces of Poupatempo, with the primary goal of enhancing accessibility and intuitiveness for the general public. This initiative aimed to streamline user interactions and improve overall user experience across the platform. The Poupatempo administration sought to align the interfaces more closely with the key visual elements of Poupatempo’s communications. Under the oversight of Feed Consultoria, a comprehensive review of the Information Architecture of the applications was conducted, along with usability tests on-site.

Objectives

Create the visual foundations for both the website and mobile app, utilizing wireframes and content provided for the project.

Constraints

Legacy systems
Lack of brand visual guidelines
Cross-company stakeholders

The problem

Context

The web and mobile applications for all 260 services offered by Poupatempo underwent a complete overhaul from scratch. This involved a revamp of content, taxonomy, navigation, and tone of voice, which were then translated into information architecture documents and wireframes. Concurrently, Poupatempo updated its brand identity across both physical and digital channels and aimed to reflect these changes in the applications’ visuals.

Physical: duotone, black and orange.

Digital: colorful, deliberately cluttered.

Business wants & needs

1 – Take down the blue. They were looking to remove its dominance in the brand identity.
2 – Incorporate the graphic elements from communications into the designs. This was non-negotiable.

My goal

My goal was to design visuals that reflected those two new identities while incorporating them into the provided content and wireframes. Rather than producing a complete design system, the aim was to establish a foundational visual framework that could be further developed.

Previous visuals.

Challenge

Create designs prioritizing accessibility and intuitive navigation, ensuring easy access to government services and essential information, while attaining the new company’s identities.

The solution

From wireframe to design

Transitioning from concept to concrete, the journey from wireframe to visual design was smooth and frictionless. Having a comprehensive documentation and complete wireframes was essencial to ensure fast and precise design deliveries.

Conclusion

Results

The community and the state government both accepted the new visual with enthusiasm, which brings me great satisfaction. I’m pleased with how this project turned out, and I feel confident that I’ve effectively served both the citizens and Poupatempo. Moreover, being a citizen of São Paulo myself, working on this project was particularly rewarding, knowing that I’ve contributed to the benefit of everyone I know in the region.

Before and after

After mid 2023

The visuals I designed went offline in mid-2023. When state government administration changed in late 2022, a new identity for the São Paulo state management was launched, and with it, a new digital strategy for state-owned products. This led to new versions of web and mobile applications.

The choices I made in the service color palette and icons were preserved, so I rest assured those were asserted decisions that are going to last.

Even though my work isn’t on display anymore, I commend the new design.
